Harmonization of definitions and creation of a joint research agenda

Objective

To establish community-accepted definitions and a common research agenda based on priorities identified by the community to deepen our understanding of mechanisms in Resolution Biology

Tasks

  • T1.1: Creation of consensus definitions and criteria;
  • T1.2: Conduction of a community based survey to identify challenges in the study of Resolution Biology;
  • T1.3: Collation of results from the survey and prioritization of challenges to establish a joint agenda.
  • T1.4: YRI training in research coordination.

Development of Standard Operating procedures (SOP)

Objective

To establish standardised protocols and methodologies for the study of Resolution Biology

Tasks

  • T2.1: Collation of methodologies employed in research (including in vitro, in vivo and analytical methodologies) into Resolution Biology;
  • T2.2: Streamlining the methodologies to harmonize approaches in SOP;
  • T2.3: Consultation with the community on proposed SOP.
  • T2.4: YRI training in SOP & method development

Defining mechanisms that regulate the resolution of inflammation

Objective

Synergy between multidisciplinary and multisectoral efforts in the study of mechanisms in Resolution Biology to enable ground-breaking discoveries

Tasks

  • T3.1: Identify and aggregate areas of active research into cross-cutting themes to foster synergy;
  • T3.2: Establish and characterise novel tools (e.g., transgenic animals, organchip models etc.);
  • T3.3: Establish mechanisms of cross talk between pro-resolving pathways;
  • T3.4: Establish the role of pro-resolving pathways in physiology;
  • T3.5: Identify mechanisms that lead to dysregulated pro-resolving pathway activity in disease.
  • T3.6: Educational video(s) highlighting the role of Resolution Biology in physiology.
  • T3.7:Training of YRI in basic discovery science and cutting-edge methodologies.

Identify novel Resolution Biology-based targets

Objective

To leverage multidisciplinary and multisectoral expertise to develop and test novel Resolution Biology-based targets for the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions

  • T4.1: Identify areas of fragmented expertise and organise these into cross cutting themes to foster synergy;
  • T4.2: To establish guidelines for the development of novel Resolution Biology-based therapeutics to facilitate translation.
  • T4.3: Establish the therapeutic potential of available Resolution Biology-based leads;
  • T4.4: To identify novel proresolving mediator-based prognostic and/or diagnostic biomarkers.
  • T4.5: Educational video(s) highlighting the potential utility of resolution-based drugs.
  • T4.6 Training of YRI in the translation and commercialization of basic research

Establishing a curated knowledge hub

Objective

To establish an open access, up-to-date online resource that brings together the existing knowledge about Resolution Biology and provide a platform for the dissemination of guidelines and research emanating from this action

Tasks

  • T5.1: Collate available knowledge into research domains;
  • T5.2: Design and establish an interactive database that provides a gateway to the collated knowledge;
  • T5.3: Curate the database to ensure all the information is up to date.
  • T5.4: YRI training in database development and management.

Science communication, dissemination and exploitation

Objective

To implement activities to ensure knowledge sharing between partners, to organise the training activities together with WG1-4, defining and implementing the dissemination and exploitation plan

Tasks

  • T6.1: Create and publish a website and social media accounts for this action;
  • T6.2: Facilitate the integration of the database working with WG5;
  • T6.3: Define and implement dissemination and exploitation plan;
  • T6.4: Organize networking and training (including STSMs, workshops and schools) activities with WG1-5;
  • T6.5: Organise outreach and communication activities including participation in third party activities.
  • T6.6 YRI training in research dissemination and exploitation.
  • T6.7 Onboarding of new participants in this COST during the implementation phase.
