Helena Sousa, a researcher from the Lipidomics Laboratory of the University of Aveiro, recently completed a short-term scientific mission at the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) in Valencia, Spain.
The primary objective of this visit was to acquire advanced expertise in the analysis of oxylipins using Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM)-based mass spectrometry methodologies. Oxylipins are bioactive lipid mediators involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes, and their accurate quantification is essential for advancing research in inflammation, metabolism, and human health.
Throughout the stay, Helena worked closely with the IIS La Fe research team, specially Dr Julia Kuligowski and PhD Nadezhda Nikiforova, gaining hands-on experience in analytical workflows, method optimization, data acquisition, and interpretation of targeted lipidomics datasets. This knowledge transfer will contribute to expanding the analytical capabilities of the Lipidomics Laboratory at the University of Aveiro and support the development of future research projects in the field.
Beyond the technical and scientific benefits, this mobility experience played an important role in strengthening the relationship between the University of Aveiro and IIS La Fe.
